welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

The Shorts and Beatys take on Silver Dollar City!

Last weekend we went to Silver Dollar City with our friends Jon and Emily from Beaty Photography. I hadn’t been there since I was about 8 years old, and I have to admit that I expected it to not be as fun as it was. Despite the freezing temperatures, we had an awesome time and...

Ozark Missouri’s Downtown Square: Jon and Emily

This past weekend we had a super fun retreat with our new friends Jon and Emily of Beaty Photography in Fort Smith, Arkansas. As many of you know, I have a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days — a list of goals or experiences that I want to do in 1001 days....

New Orleans Photography: Models in the French Quarter

My husband is so talented. I can’t even begin to tell you all the ways that he constantly impresses me, but his natural ability to photograph people in beautiful ways just amazes and surprises (in a good way) me all the time. When I saw his images from the shooting workshop he did at Pictage’s...

New Orleans Shooting Workshop: Bridal Model

When we were in New Orleans for Pictage PartnerCon, Jeff and I had the chance to take part in shooting workshops with amazing models. The workshop I attended was led by Sara France, and we had the most gorgeous model. Our shoot took place in the French Quarter of New Orleans, which is an awesome...

Kansas City Family Photographer: Session Slideshow!

I love taking family portraits. Meeting families and having the opportunity to capture who they are together is awesome. It’s also very challenging, since we all knows kids can be unpredictable. So my approach to family portraits is a very relaxed one. I obviously take photos of everyone smiling and looking at the camera, but...

Urban Kansas City Engagement: Nathan and Erin’s Slideshow!

I’m still trying out this new slideshow feature, thanks to awesome upgrades through my Pictage partnership. Pictage hosts all of my online galleries and is my professional print vendor. Now, they also allow me to share slideshows, so you all get to see a wider variety of images from sessions. I’m not sure that I’ll...

Sarasota, Florida (taken with the best point and shoot camera!)

I get a lot of questions about what point and shoot camera I recommend. Of course, I tend to carry my Nikon gear with me most places, but sometimes it’s really nice to take a break from the heavy gear and throw a little camera in my purse. Or, in this case, in Jeff’s carry-on...

Bre and Allen’s Wedding Slideshow (Springfield, Missouri)

Since Bre and Allen’s wedding was the last one of the year, I thought I’d share some more images in a slideshow — they had such great wedding day details that I didn’t blog about. Bre is super creative, so check out the slideshow to see what all they planned on their wedding day! Don’t...
