welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Kansas City Senior Photos: Jay

Jay’s senior photo session at Antioch Park was a lot of fun. Jay was really easygoing, has a great smile, and was really fun to photograph. It was a great late afternoon with beautiful light! Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot.

Kansas City Headshots: Andrea

When I first knew Andrea, she was afraid of cameras. Or at least very, very camera shy. She just wasn’t comfortable with it, but she agreed to let me take some portraits of her, because I needed practice. I convinced her to let me take her photos one evening when we were in college, because...

Country Sunset

Sometimes I miss the country. I took this in my parents’ pasture just as the sun set on an evening in September. The bluestem grass was tall and blowing in the breeze. Beautiful night.

Fun Kansas City Family Portraits

I met up with this fun family for their fall portrait session in an urban location — a fun twist on traditional family portraits. I love family portraits that are relaxed, casual, and capture the personalities of kids. I have a few times left for family sessions this fall, so don’t miss out! I just...

Senior Photos: Tyler

Tyler’s senior photos took place in my hometown area, which I have actually never photographed in! It was funny to think that I’ve never done a photo shoot in the town where I spent a lot of time growing up. Tyler is really into baseball, and brought along a cool car for the shoot. Here...

Jen and Mike’s Wichita Wedding: The Petroleum Club

The Day of Happy Faces. That’s what I’ve dubbed Jen and Mike’s wedding day. Because it was. The whole day was filled with smiling, happy, joyful people. I have so many candid shots of people looking incredibly happy at this wedding that it makes my heart just burst. This is what a wedding day is...

Justin and Leslie’s Fun Photos

My brother and sister-in-law have been married for almost four years. One of the benefits of having a photographer for a sister is updated photos of every stage of life. They came to visit for the weekend, and it took some photos of them just because! How cute are they?!

The last time I saw Michelle and Joe, they were getting married. Just the two of them, ready to embark on their journey together. They were one of my first wedding couples, and now they have a baby who is almost a year old! They came to Kansas City for a fun session at the...
