welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Film shots of North Carolina

When we took our trip to North Carolina, I also took along a new little friend of mine, a light blue Diana F+ camera, which was an awesome gift from awesome friends. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with the medium-format film camera, which is totally manual and bears little resemblance to the...

Meet the Robinsons!

This is one fun family. They’re happy people, who love each other, and understand the importance of taking photos together. It sounds like a long-standing tradition for them to have a holiday family photo — there was even talk of recreating the themes from previous shoots in the years to come. Amanda, the (brunette) older...

Kaylee’s Senior Photos!

Yes, two senior photo posts in one day! Kaylee is Harlee’s best friend. And Kaylee’s sister is my best friend (Kasie, my North Carolina travel buddy!). We’re really into best friendness! I’ve known Kaylee since she was born. Literally, I probably met her the next week. My mom was pregnant with my younger brother at...

Harlee’s Senior Photos!

Harlee is a classmate of my younger brother’s. It’s not often that I get to take photos in that area of Kansas, but it was super fun taking senior photos in locations I didn’t even know existed in the town I thought I knew like the back of my hand. Harlee has a fun spirit,...

Jaymie and Daniel’s Downtown Kansas City Engagement

Jaymie and Daniel are a really fun couple. And they love each other… a lot! They’re so sweet to each other (and just sweet people in general), so I had a great time photographing their engagement. They’re tying the knot next fall on a beach in Mexico, but wanted some fun Kansas City engagement photos!...

Mattie and Rodney’s Kansas Wedding

Mattie and Rodney’s wedding was in small town in Kansas, and it couldn’t have been more suited to their personalities. It was a celebration of their commitment to each other, and their family and friends came together to share in their joy. They got married at the Christian church in town on a slightly chilly...

Family photos with three canine children!

When Erin first emailed me to see if I’d be up for the challenge of photographing her family… including their three large-breed dogs, I was excited! I love when families bring along the family pet for portraits, but doing a session centered around three different dogs with different personalities was a really fun challenge. Their...

Erin and Jeff’s Pittsburg KS Wedding

Before the wedding ceremony, Erin’s mom came up to me and said that Erin was really excited to have us photograph her wedding. We go back quite a few years as volunteers with HOBY. Her mom went on to say, “Erin had her photographer picked out before she knew who’d she be standing up there...

Home: Operation Love Reunited Session

It was raining and cold. So we went with Plan B, to shoot inside. I suggested shooting in their home, and I’m so glad we did. This session was part of Operation: Love Reunited, an organization of volunteer photographers who provide portrait sessions for families of deployed soldiers. I’ll be really excited to send this...
