welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Thanks, brides! :)

For the second year in a row, brides voted ericamay as one of the top wedding vendors! Wedding Wire conducts surveys and reviews of more than 750,000 newlywed couples — and those real brides and grooms helped name ericamay a winner of the Bride’s Choice award for 2011! I’m honored to do what I do,...

A fruit shoot.

Literally. I did a photo shoot of some fruits for a project someone requested for their new kitchen decor. Citrus fruits, to be exact. I don’t get projects like this very often, so it was fun to try to be creative with photos of inanimate objects. I like the results of these, mostly because the...

A day in the life of a flower girl!

As I’ve been going through Hannah and Jeff’s wedding images, I kept finding adorable photos of their flower girl. She was with the ladies all day, was so well-behaved, and has the sweetest little face. She even gave me permission to take her photo a few times. She’s so cute and went about the day...

Jeff and Hannah’s winter wedding in Missouri

I’m at a loss for words to explain who Jeff and Hannah are, because there are too many great things I could say. Individually, they are kind, warm-hearted people who bring joy to the people around them. Together, they’re one of the most made for each other couples I’ve worked with. I don’t say that...

ericamay 101: your questions answered!

During the Cans for Comments campaign, I started a little topic called “ericamay 101″ — since I know a lot of you who read this site are getting started as photographers, or are newlyweds or new parents who invested in a digital SLR but don’t know how to use it. These posts are a way...

Baby bump (not mine!).

My friend Jami is adorably pregnant, and they just found out it’s a little girl! Back in December, when we were bored and volunteering taking photos with kids with Santa (quite an experience!), I snapped a few photos of her sweet little baby bump and her fighting black and white patterns, which makes this so...

Las Vegas Photo Shoot!

We’re traveling to Las Vegas in February for the WPPI conference, and while I’m there I would LOVE to do a photo shoot for an individual or couple! Do you know anyone who lives in the Las Vegas area? I’m looking for some willing participants for a shoot between February 19th and 22nd, either on...

Holly and Hanna

These two are the cutest girls ever… I think it must be in their genes. Am I allowed to say that if they’re my cousins? I got to see Holly and Hanna for a Christmas celebration, and they are some of the most adorable girls, who are so sweet and also so entertaining. They also...

One more fun little post from North Carolina

I promise I’m still here! The holidays have been busy, as I’m sure they were for most of you! I’ve had some time off of busy shooting, which has been a great refresher for me, looking forward to 2011. I have all sorts of fun posts planned, including answering the Q&A we did during the...
