welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Diana F+ film shots of Divide, Colorado

I took along the Diana F+ on our recent trip to Colorado. It surprises me every time I get these medium-format film shots back. They never look the same, and it’s a fun game to wait until they get developed. I thought I’d treat you all to a handful of Diana prints, all taken around...

Kali and Joe’s engagement session in rural Kansas

Oh, boy. Kali and Joe’s engagement session was so. much. fun. I love when a couple says, “Sure, Erica, let’s drive around in the country looking for random spots that inspire you.” That’s what they did. And I’m so excited about the locations we found, the light the day before Spring officially began, and how...

Baby Aiden: Almost 4 Months!

Can this little guy get any cuter? His red hair, adorably expressive face, happy little smile… I could hang out with him all day. He’s almost four months old, and we did a fun photo shoot with Aiden and his parents at their home. They’re pretty much regulars on the blog, so welcome back this...

Jessica and Chris: Engagement Photos in Kansas City

Jessica and Chris wanted an engagement session that felt urban, but also outdoorsy, and that also incorporated their interest in wine. How do you do all of that in one session? Well, you start in the Crossroads, visit the sweet people at Cellar Rat, and then find some rural-looking areas next to a dog park....

Nick and Katie

I only took about 6 frames of Nick and Katie during their shoot at the Don’t Give Up Project. But I really only needed one.

The Don’t Give Up Project

How do I even begin to explain something like The Don’t Give Up Project? How do I tell you, in words or in pictures, about the hearts of the people who attended? How do I show you how much fun this retreat in the mountains is, while also conveying how inspiring it is? Jeff and...
