welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Monthly Archives: April 2011

My house makes me happy.

I just thought I’d share a few things around our home that make me smile… old books, old cameras, the color green, good music on vinyl, canvas prints, fun pillows, patterns, and pretty vases.

Sarah and Nic’s Kansas City Engagement Session!

Sarah and Nic like to laugh together. They’re super fun, and we had an awesome time at our shoot… they laughed a lot and joked a lot, and their personalities were really able to come through. There are a lot of great photos of Sarah and Nic both smiling nicely into the camera, but you...

Kristin and Brad’s wedding at the Kansas City Intercontinental

The day before their spring wedding was blustery, freezing cold, and very rainy. The morning of their wedding, the thermostat in my house said 54 degrees when I woke up (I left the heater off on accident!). I thought of Kristin and Brad that morning as I got ready to head out to their wedding,...

Aimee and Jeff are having a baby!

I love Aimee and Jeff. I met them through one of our awesome couples from last year — Sarah and Brett — so when they contacted me about a maternity session, I was pretty excited. Aimee first message basically said that she wanted a fun session, nothing cheesy, and nothing that might end up on...

Portrait special benefitting a youth program!

If you’ve followed my blog for any amount of time at all, you’ve certainly heard of HOBY. HOBY (or Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) is an international non-profit organization that is so near and dear to my heart. I went through the program (a summer camp of sorts focused on volunteerism, community service, and a variety...

Jack’s Newborn Session

My friends just had their second baby — this time, a boy! Little Jack is so sweet, was very sleepy, and did a great job putting up with his energetic (and adorable) older sister, Lucy. I spent some time with them one afternoon just before Jack was two weeks old. Here are a few photos...

Maci’s 4-month session

Maci is already four months old. Wow! I’m so excited that I get to capture her first year of life. This second session was so much fun, and she has such an adorable little personality already shining through. Since it was raining outside, we did the entire session in her home again, which was perfect....

Everett’s Newborn Session

Baby Everett is adorable. So is his big brother. And little Everett really wanted to be wide awake for our newborn session, even though his mom says he’s the sleepiest baby in the world. So we did a lot of waiting for him to fall asleep. We tried every trick we could think of… and...
