welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

What do you when it’s raining?

Nate and Maggie’s engagement session almost got rained out… twice. This time, we decided to go for it, despite the rain. So we got creative. We found indoor locations off the beaten path, braved the mist for a few minutes at a time, and had a lot of fun. See, Nate and Maggie are the...

Drew proposed to Abbey on the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins next to one of the big shuttlecock statues. So, when it came time for their engagement session, that’s where they wanted to go! Like most shoots this spring, we were battling some rain clouds but made it through, and I love some of the images...

This adorable mom set up a fun evening tea party in the woods near their home for her four adorable kids… as a surprise for their dad, who will see the photos on Father’s Day. I promise I asked if there was any chance he’d find these photos if I posted some before then on...

I had the pleasure of photographing a cute family in a fun part of the city — when Kristen contacted me about a fun family shoot and updated headshots for her website, I was excited! I love photographing other photographers and their families… too often photographers aren’t in front of the lens! Here are a...

Family fun at the park!

It might have been raining on us as we drove to the park… it might have been super wet and a little muddy while we were there… and it might have thundered after our session, but during our shoot, the sun came out and we made it through (although the trees “rained” on us a...

Jenna and Pat!

Jenna and Pat are so much fun. We had an awesome time at our session, laughed a lot, had a little run-in with some huge bumble bees, talked about Twilight and Harry Potter, and also captured some adorable photos of them in the process. They’ve been married for about two and a half years, have...
