welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Monthly Archives: June 2011

My best friend is moving far, far away.

But before she goes off to the west coast, we had to get in the annual photo shoot during the month of Kasie and Aleks’ wedding anniversary. They’ve been married for three years now, and I keep telling them they’re going to love these yearly photos of them when they’re like 75. Since they’re leaving...

Jen and Ben’s Kansas engagement session!

Jen and Ben’s engagement session in the summertime in Kansas was awesome. They flew back to their college town from their current home in Texas to take their engagement photos in the state (and on the college campus) that they both love. It was the perfect summer evening in Kansas, and in true Kansas fashion,...

B in black and white.

She goes by B. Because she’s that cool. Not even Madonna goes by M. I snapped a few shots of B at a recent photography class I helped teach with La Brisa Photography. She’s so cute I had to share a few here.

Michaela and Evan love each other

They’ve been married for a little over two years now. They wanted photos that capture them at this stage in their marriage, and they wanted some with their “baby” Ruby. We met up at the location of their wedding reception, actually, because they love the venue and wanted to have a new perspective two years...

Brandi and Scott’s Wedding at Indian Hills Country Club

Brandi and Scott are amazing people. They’re loving, kind, beautiful, and compassionate. Their wedding day was such a fun day for them to express their commitment to each other, and to celebrate with their loved ones. Their June wedding was at one of my favorite Kansas City venues, Indian Hills Country Club, where Brandi and...

Gabby and Keith’s Engagement Photos

Gabby and Keith were so great to photograph. They have a chemistry that really shines through in photographs, and they’re just adorable together. We had a great night for photos with perfect evening light and a really light cloud cover — which just added to the awesomeness that is Gabby and Keith. We shot at...

Family Photos in Chicago!

While we visited Chicago for a few days this week, I got to take photos for a super cute family. It was a head shots + family portrait session, and it was great! Both Liz and Eric needed updated head shots for their careers, and they have the most adorable 8-month-old baby girl, who was...

Fun families make me smile

I had such a good time with this family, just a few weeks after the dad returned home from overseas. Their kids are adorable, and we explored the park together, finding all sorts of fun things like fountains, flowers, and squirrels. And, for future reference, if you need a little girl to smile for you,...

Kelsey and Daniel’s wedding in Lawrence, KS!

Everyone was smiling, all day long. Everyone was celebrating, and happy, and glad to be there to witness Kelsey and Daniel’s wedding ceremony and to party with them afterward. Everyone could see the joy on the faces of the bride and groom, and everyone laughed as they heard the pastor retell their story, one that...
