welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Stacy and Daniel’s Sunset Engagement Session!

Stacy and Daniel love to watch sunsets and sunrises together. It’s their thing. It always has been. Daniel proposed during a sunrise, and they spend a lot of weekends sitting together to watch the sun peek over the horizon or fall behind it at the day’s end. So, when it came time for their engagement...

Tamara and Royce’s engagement session in the River Market

Tamara and Royce braved the extreme heat for their engagement session — it was the hottest day we’ve had so far this year, and they were still awesome and willing to take photos! I love how their images turned out, too. Both Tamara and Royce are just beautiful people (inside and out), and they are...

What do you when it’s raining?

Nate and Maggie’s engagement session almost got rained out… twice. This time, we decided to go for it, despite the rain. So we got creative. We found indoor locations off the beaten path, braved the mist for a few minutes at a time, and had a lot of fun. See, Nate and Maggie are the...

Abbey and Drew’s Engagement Session at the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum

Drew proposed to Abbey on the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins next to one of the big shuttlecock statues. So, when it came time for their engagement session, that’s where they wanted to go! Like most shoots this spring, we were battling some rain clouds but made it through, and I love some of the images...

The rain held off, the light was lovely, and Bryan and Taryn were super fun. The photos… also fun. I love all of the shades of green everywhere right now, and their session was filled with all types of pretty greens! They’re tying the knot in Mexico in just a few weeks!
