welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Lisa and her sisters!

It’s the best thing to spend time with people who are so full of life. Like Lisa, who never stopped smiling during our whole shoot, who laughed a lot, and who was just a joy to photograph. People who are so full of life, like Lisa and her two sisters, Sarah and Emily — who...

Romy: Kansas City Senior Photos!

Romy is just adorable. She’s super fun and was really great to get to know during our shoot. Her older brother Calder was the groom in a wedding I shot just over a year ago, so it was fun to get back together with a member of the family! Our shoot at the Overland Park...

Olivia’s Senior Photos on the KU Campus

Olivia drove a few hours to take her senior photos, and we met up on the KU campus for some fun photos with pretty backdrops. She wanted photos that didn’t look like the rest of her classmates’ photos, and we had a lot of fun creating images to capture her senior year. She brought along...

Kansas City Senior Photos in the Crossroads: Katie

Katie loves books. She loves to read, loves learning new things in books, and loves literature in general. She also loves her hipster glasses. And her bright blue Chucks. She wants to go to an east coast school to study English, and we bonded over our love of books. I brought along some of my...

Kansas City Senior Photos: Jenny

Jenny is a beautiful girl with a very bright future ahead of her. I loved hearing about her plans for school, and to go do very big things in the world. The best part is, even after meeting her for just a few minutes, I believe that she’ll do it. And more. Jenny’s session was...

Shawnee Mission Senior Photos: Erica (best name ever!)

I took photos of an adorable girl with an even better name. She’s a talented senior who plays golf, the flute, and is super smart. She’s also named Erica, and she is so much fun. We took her senior photos at Shawnee Mission Park and the local golf course where her school’s golf team plays....

Senior Photos: Tyler

Tyler’s senior photos took place in my hometown area, which I have actually never photographed in! It was funny to think that I’ve never done a photo shoot in the town where I spent a lot of time growing up. Tyler is really into baseball, and brought along a cool car for the shoot. Here...

Senior Photos: Jacob (My Little Brother!)

I’ve been looking forward to taking my little brother’s senior photos for a while now. He’s a great sport to let his older sister take his photos, and for the whole family to go along and watch. Poor guy. But he’s a champ. It’s hard to believe that he’s a senior. I keep saying that...
