welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Colleen and Tobie’s Wedding at The Simpson House in Kansas City

“He’s kissed her at least a thousand times…”

A wedding guest near me said those words during Colleen and Tobie’s first dance. And it might have been true. Their first dance was beautiful, set to Peter Gabriel’s The Book of Love. Their dance together was reflective of their relationship — beautiful, romantic, loving. Just like their wedding day, which was a perfect summer wedding day (despite the Kansas humidity!).

As I picked out images for their blog post, hoping to get a few images online before they leave on their honeymoon, I found that I couldn’t just post a few. I had to give a more complete story of their day in this post to show the emotion and beauty of their day. So, here are some of my favorites…

A big thank you to the talented Lindsey for shooting with me!

I love this reaction Tobie’s daughter has to seeing Colleen in her wedding gown.

Colleen and Tobie had a “first meeting” before their ceremony, and it was beautiful!

We took a few portraits inside and around The Simpson House, which is a gorgeous venue, before heading to Kauffman Gardens for a few more photos.

We made use of some old encyclopedias in the venue for their ring shot — notice the 7/17/10 on the spines!

Their ceremony was beautiful, in the backyard of The Simpson House.

The minister talked about Colleen and Tobie’s focus on family, and his beautiful daughters — I love this shot of them looking at the girls during the ceremony!

And yes, Colleen and Tobie both winked at the girls at the same time. How cute is that?

The reception was beautiful with light pouring in from the windows of the historic house.

Remember the part at the beginning of this post about their first dance. Here are the images of their beautiful dance together.
