welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited that you're visiting my photography blog. This blog will show you all of my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many love stories. My photography style is a fun and relaxed documentary style, and I focus more on emotions than posed stuff. :) Besides photography, I love my husband (Jeff), our miniature schnauzer (Petey), and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

Kim and Alex’s Kansas City Engagement Session

Kim and Alex are the kind of couple that you like from the instant you meet them. They’re thoughtful, kind, and fun. Alex grew up in Kansas City, and Kim just moved here last week to be with him! Since Kansas City is their new home together, we decided a session that incorporated some Kansas...

Rachel and Ryan’s Outdoorsy Engagement Session

They love natural scenery. They love K-State. They love each other. They love Mexican food.
We’re going to get along great.

Meredith and Mike’s Engagement: KU campus and 1950s-themed fun!

When Meredith first told me that she wanted her engagement session to include a 1950s-themed portion, I knew we’d get along well. Meredith loves cooking, which was evident the second I stepped into their kitchen to see all sorts of cooking gadgets, spices, cookbooks, and fun utensils that I tend to “need” any time I...

Engagement Session in the Rain: Luke and Erika

Luke and Erika’s engagement session at her parents’ home near De Soto, Kansas, was rainy — but perfect for the setting. I loved how the rain and clouds gave the photos an extra romantic feel. The location was beautiful and the people couldn’t be more cute, sweet, and awesome. Especially when they were in the...

Lawrence Engagement Photos: Jessie and Rick

Imagine this: two 18-year-old girls, working at a daycare center for the summer before heading off to college. It was one of the most interesting jobs ever, and one of the girls (me) had to send all of my unruly children into the other girl’s (Jessie’s) classroom for nap time. It’s a wonder she ever...

Kansas City Engagement Photos at the Nelson-Atkins: Jen and Mike

I don’t even know where to begin talking about Jen and Mike. These two are awesome. Jeff and I have had a lot of fun getting to know them — over bubble tea and Asian dumplings at Blue Koi, root beer and macaroni and cheese at McCoy’s (okay, I’m the only one who ordered macaroni...

Engagement in Kansas City’s River Market Area: Sarah and Paul

When Sarah first e-mailed me about her wedding photography after finding me in an online search and asked if I went to HOBY, I knew we were going to get along. Sarah attended the same youth leadership seminar that I still volunteer with (and how I met Jeff) — which is an awesome...

Yen and Christopher met up with me in the Westport area of Kansas City for a super sweet photo shoot on a chilly afternoon. Luckily, Yen is a trooper and still wore her super cute dress and amazing heels. I love it when girls get girly for their engagement sessions!

They’re stylish. They’re fun. They’re completely adorable together. They’re in love.
