welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Mandi and Matt’s Country Sunset Engagement Session

Mandi and Matt are awesome. They trusted me completely with the location of their shoot, and I scouted some really cool spots out in the country west of the city. They wanted something that was natural and rustic, and I love the shots we got at sunset on a really perfect October day. Not only...

Kate and Justin’s Fall Engagement Session

Kate and Justin make my job easy. They’re adorable together, fun, and comfortable. They were up for a little photo adventure, racing the sun before it set to find a nice “country” location. I won’t tell you where the last part of these photos were taken, because you’d be shocked… just imagine a really picturesque,...

Evelyn and Joe’s Downtown Kansas City Engagement Session

Evelyn and Joe’s engagement session started out in a pretty neat way — at their jeweler’s! We went to Goodden Jewellers in downtown Kansas City to take photos of the ring-making process that Evelyn and Joe are in the middle of for their very unique wedding bands. They are having Mokume Gane rings made, and...

I liked Brandi and Scott from the first time I met them. I really liked them. Because I could tell within a few minutes that they are my kind of couple. They lean towards each other when they talk, they make eye contact with one another even if they’re talking to someone else, they laugh,...

Jordnn and Josh are engaged!

One of my favorite parts about doing what I do is getting to create images that freeze part of someone’s life. It’s even better when I get to photograph someone who I’ve known for a while and whose family has been a part of my life since I was born! I remember when Jordnn was...

Erin and Jeff’s Engagement

Erin and Jeff’s session was so much because I got to hang out with them, shoot in places I’ve never shot before, and try to beat the quickly setting sun in the process. It was all a success. Erin and I go way back to my first year involved with HOBY (the youth leadership program...

Rachel and Ryan’s Outdoorsy Engagement Session

They love natural scenery. They love K-State. They love each other. They love Mexican food. We’re going to get along great. I met up with Rachel and Ryan to capture some relaxed, fun portraits of them for their engagement session. They told me they wanted them to be natural, earthy, and unposed. I think we...
