Lori and Brian’s springtime engagement session

Lori and Brian are awesome. They love each other, they know how to have fun, and they are really great to photograph. Add in a gorgeous springtime evening at a park that recently turned green, and I’m a happy photographer! Here are some of my favorites… the first one is one of my all time favorites!

Jessica and Chris: Engagement Photos in Kansas City

Jessica and Chris wanted an engagement session that felt urban, but also outdoorsy, and that also incorporated their interest in wine. How do you do all of that in one session? Well, you start in the Crossroads, visit the sweet people at Cellar Rat, and then find some rural-looking areas next to a dog park. Jessica and Chris flew from two different cities (and countries!) to come to Kansas City for some engagement photos. Here are a few of my faves of these two cuties.

No, this isn’t their dog. I’m not even sure if they’re “dog people” or not… but I am, and I thought it was funny that this guy slowly strolled by while we were incorporating Jessica’s sweet heels into the shoot.

Kate and Justin’s Fall Engagement Session

Kate and Justin make my job easy. They’re adorable together, fun, and comfortable. They were up for a little photo adventure, racing the sun before it set to find a nice “country” location. I won’t tell you where the last part of these photos were taken, because you’d be shocked… just imagine a really picturesque, wide open field with no cars or people in sight.

We visited several locations for Kate and Justin’s photos — the first, in front of their beautiful home and spots around the neighborhood.

Both Justin and Kate lived in the Library Lofts downtown… one floor apart, and never met!

We drove looking for a neat spot to take some more outdoorsy photos. This is my favorite photo of the day:

The fall colors were so rich as the sun set.

Evelyn and Joe’s Downtown Kansas City Engagement Session

Evelyn and Joe’s engagement session started out in a pretty neat way — at their jeweler’s! We went to Goodden Jewellers in downtown Kansas City to take photos of the ring-making process that Evelyn and Joe are in the middle of for their very unique wedding bands. They are having Mokume Gane rings made, and they don’t actually know what their bands will end up looking like, since the process fuses two different metals together to create a wood or water pattern. How fun is that? I got to watch the first part of Evelyn’s ring be made, as the jeweler drilled little holes in the metal to start making a pattern. It’s difficult to explain, fascinating to watch, and here are a few photos to show the process:

Of course, we also took some fun photos of Evelyn and Joe together downtown! They are so happy around each other, and couldn’t stop smiling!

Kim and Alex’s Kansas City Engagement Session

Kim and Alex are the kind of couple that you like from the instant you meet them. They’re thoughtful, kind, and fun. Alex grew up in Kansas City, and Kim just moved here last week to be with him! Since Kansas City is their new home together, we decided a session that incorporated some Kansas City themes was appropriate. We started at the Plaza, where they live, and ended up at Liberty Memorial for some Kansas City skyline views! Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

Alex spent a lot of time driving back and forth in his Range Rover while they were dating to see Kim. Since it’s such a part of their story, we had to take some photos with it!

I love how Kim’s hair is blowing in the breeze here. This has such a romantic feel!

Kansas City Engagement Photos in Westport: Yen and Christopher

Yen and Christopher met up with me in the Westport area of Kansas City for a super sweet photo shoot on a chilly afternoon. Luckily, Yen is a trooper and still wore her super cute dress and amazing heels. I love it when girls get girly for their engagement sessions!

I also love shooting in urban locations, and Westport has amazing backdrops — all within just a few blocks. We didn’t even go too far for this shoot, and got such a fun variety! Here are my faves.

Kansas City Engagement Photos: Colleen and Tobie, Union Station and Liberty Memorial

They’re stylish. They’re fun. They’re completely adorable together. They’re in love. They’re Colleen and Tobie, and I can’t tell you how excited I am that I get to photograph their wedding this summer. It was so great to photograph their engagement session this past weekend, and despite the unexpected chilly weather, they were amazing. Because when two people are relaxed comfortable with each other, it makes for great photos!

This reminds me a movie… I just can’t think of which one. Don’t they look like they could be in a movie together?

I think this one is my favorite. They just look so sweet and comfortable.

Kansas City Engagement Photos: Jessica and Bob

It’s funny how life brings people together… even if they knew each other all along. Jessica and Bob grew up in the same hometown and say they have “known each other forever.” But they weren’t high school sweethearts. In fact, they didn’t start dating until they had both left home, finished college, and both ended up moving to Kansas City. They met up, went out, and the rest is history. It’s a magical place, Kansas City.

We planned their engagement session to capture the city that helped their relationship happen. We met up at Liberty Memorial and finished our shoot at Union Station on a pretty chilly, windy morning. I love how the cloudy haziness of the morning helps their photos look more romantic.

Union Station is a place that holds memories for Bob’s family — his grandfather would come in on the train for work when Bob’s dad lived in Kansas City. It’s neat to hear stories about historic buildings in Kansas City, and I’m so glad that Union Station is still standing and operating today. I’m also glad that we could capture some engagement photos in a location that has meaning to Bob’s family!

Jessica went to K-State, and Bob went to KU, so they had to support their teams. And, of course, I had to take a photo showing which team is more important. Just kidding. I took one of Bob in the front, too…

Kansas City Engagement Photos: Dallas and Megan, City Market Area

After just a few minutes with Dallas and Megan, it’s apparent that they care very deeply about each other. They are so sweet to one another. I like to find what it is about each of my couples that makes their relationship unique, and that forms the bond between them. During Dallas and Megan’s engagement session at City Market in Kansas City, I focused on capturing their compassion for each other. They made it very easy. As I picked out images for this blog post, I found myself most drawn to the cuddly/sweet/cozy-looking photos of these two!

Dallas and Megan, I am so excited to capture your sweetness on your wedding day this summer! Thanks so much for asking me to be a part of your love story.

Downtown Kansas City Engagement Photos: Nathan and Erin

When a client tells me they want a photo session in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, I know it’s going to be a good session. Nathan and Erin love everything about downtown Kansas City, and they even went out and scoped out cool spots for their session, which all took place pretty close to where they live downtown. We visited the West Bottoms warehouse area, then a cool overlook/park that looks out over the West Bottoms, and then took a trip downtown where all of the new development is happening around the Power and Light District. It was a good session.

Here are some of my favorites — these two are so cute, it was hard to narrow it down!

They really wanted photos with these old trucks, which are basically parked and never moving from a lot in the West Bottoms. It was a great location (awesome suggestion, Nathan and Erin!).

They are so seriously cute. Check them out:

The photo on the left was taken into a broken mirror on one of the trucks. The one on the right is just another one of these two looking in love.

When we got to the park, they changed outfits. I love what Erin picked out to wear for the session — she looks super cute, and I especially love the blue scarf, which matches those blue eyes perfectly!

I love this one — you can tell it was chilly outside, and they’re all cute and cuddly in their jackets, and the warehouses behind them look pretty sweet.

They have these great “serious” faces, too… they’re basically professional models.

And a few from the downtown portion of the shoot. The Main Street AMC is my FAVORITE movie theater. It’s amazing. Ask me to see a movie with you there and I’ll say yes for sure.

I love everything about this one — colors, expressions, closeness. So cute. So I’m going to end with it:
