welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited that you're visiting my photography blog. This blog will show you all of my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many love stories. My photography style is a fun and relaxed documentary style, and I focus more on emotions than posed stuff. :) Besides photography, I love my husband (Jeff), our miniature schnauzer (Petey), and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

Blake’s 6 Month Photos!

I got to take some fun photos of Blake, his mom and dad, and his canine brother (and the first baby of the family) Nigel. I love these, because they’re relaxed, playful, and provide a little glimpse into the family’s life right now. We headed to the park for a quick session on...

Baby Avery: 4 Months Old

Avery is one of the most wide-eyed babies I have ever photographed. She was so adorable and very intrigued by the loud clicking my shutter makes when I snapped her photos. I had the privilege of taking her portraits in her home, which I always love doing, because the surroundings are familiar for babies, it’s...

Family portraits for some of my very first clients!

You might remember my post at the end of last week where I talked about how thankful I am for the people at the beginning who gave me a chance and let me take their photographs when I was brand new, didn’t know a whole lot, and wasn’t really sure if this photography thing would...

We met up at the home of one of their relatives, which was...

I love meeting soldiers and their families through the Operation: Love Reunited program — a group of volunteer photographers who provide photos for soldiers going through a deployment. I met up with this awesome family just a few days before their soldier deployed. I love having the soldiers in the photos, so both he and...

My little brother in black and white

I got to take photos of my little younger brother today. He’s in Kansas City spending about 5 days with us to kick off his summer break. He’s pretty entertaining, and I can’t believe he’s almost a senior in high school. I’m excited to do his official senior photos later this year, but for now,...

Operation: Love Reunited Session

We were fortunate enough to schedule this Operation: Love Reunited session while their soldier (husband/dad) was home on leave from his deployment. I loved being able to take photos of the entire family all together! Add in some adorable children (including the cutest boy and girl twins ever!) and some fun around their family home,...

Operation: Love Reunited Session in Kansas City

Operation: Love Reunited is a group of volunteer photographers who provide photo sessions for families of deployed service men and women. I love having the chance to photograph families for OpLove — and it’s even better when it’s a surprise to the deployed soldier. I met up with this adorable family at the park for...

Newborn Portraits: Lachlan

I love it when my clients put thought into the details for photo shoots. I am lucky enough to have some pretty creative and thoughtful clients. It’s even better when new parents put so much thought and love into the newborn session for their firstborn child. This session was one of those. Add in an...
