welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

I’m going to miss this family!

We fit in one last session before this family moves around the holidays. We’ve done quite a few sessions in the past few years, and each time, their kids get cuter, sweeter, and even more fun! I have loved being able to document their lives over the past few years, and always enjoy the shoots,...

The more, the merrier! :)

Families should always have photos taken together — even when kids are grown, married, and start having their own kids! Extended family photo sessions are so much fun, because individual families/couples/kids get little sessions within the session, while also capturing fun photos with grandparents. Who wouldn’t love to see a great photo of them as...

Family photos: Deanna Rose Farmstead

There’s nothing I’d rather do on a gorgeous fall morning than spend time documenting a family, especially when it’s also at a farm made for children with all sorts of things to explore. This family of three is super adorable, and I was excited to photograph them after meeting them at a wedding of some...

It’s a great time for family photos!

I get to meet the cutest families. Seriously, I love seeing how families I photograph interact with each other, have fun, and let their personalities shine through. This family was no different. They were so much fun to explore the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art grounds with, and with a 6-year-old, 3-year-old and 7-month-old, it was...

Family photos at the Nelson-Atkins Museum!

I love this family. We’ve done a lot of shoots together in the past two years, and they’re so much fun every time. This session was no different! On a sunny afternoon, we explored the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins art museum, one of my favorite places in Kansas City. It’s not too late to get...

Fall Portraits and Travel Schedule! :)

People always ask me what kind of shoots are my favorites to do. They want to know if families are more fun than engagement photos or if babies are the best because they’re so cute. But the truth is, I can’t pick one. It changes all the time, because what I love more than a...

Henry: 6 Month Old Baby Photos!

Henry is seriously adorable. Oh my goodness. With those big eyes, tons of facial expressions, and quick smile, he just couldn’t be cuter. I had so much fun photographing Henry, his parents, and their dog at their home — my favorite kind of family session! It’s comfortable for babies, convenient for parents, and fun for...

Family Photos at Ironwoods Park!

I recently took Michaela and Evan’s photos at Ironwoods Park as an anniversary session for them two years after their wedding. When Michaela’s mom saw the images, she wanted to do a session for the whole family — two parents, one daughter and her husband, and four sons! The last time they had a big...

Maci’s 8-month photos!

This little cutie is growing up way too fast. Maci is already 8 months old, and time has just flown by. She’s still, of course, as cute as ever and has quite an extensive wardrobe of super cute outfits and accessories that she doesn’t mind changing into during the shoot. We met up on a...

Family photos in Washington, D.C.

I took a trip to Washington, D.C. last week with my siblings (more on that later). In between all of the sightseeing, museums, monuments, eating pizza, and riding the Metro, I met up with this adorable family for some relaxed family photos at the Tidal Basin/Jefferson Memorial. Sol and Rachel have two adorable boys —...
