Jenna and Pat!

Jenna and Pat are so much fun. We had an awesome time at our session, laughed a lot, had a little run-in with some huge bumble bees, talked about Twilight and Harry Potter, and also captured some adorable photos of them in the process. They’ve been married for about two and a half years, have two canine children, and are loving life together right now. They wanted to capture who they are now, which I am a big supporter of — that’s why Jeff and I have our photos taken so much right now… I want my future kids to find photos of us after marriage and before them. It’s such a fun time, and I’m so glad Jenna and Pat took the time to capture their lives right now! Here are few of my faves!

Rachel and Ryan’s Outdoorsy Engagement Session

They love natural scenery. They love K-State. They love each other. They love Mexican food.

We’re going to get along great.

I met up with Rachel and Ryan to capture some relaxed, fun portraits of them for their engagement session. They told me they wanted them to be natural, earthy, and unposed. I think we succeeded… and I loved getting the chance to hang out with them and get to know them better. As it turns out, we have a lot in common besides our love for non-posed photographs that look like real life. My kind of couple.

The light was gorgeous in the evening as the sun set quickly. It was dark by the time I started driving home, yet I could have spent more time hanging out, laughing, and shooting images of these two. Seriously, they’re beautiful together.

Rachel really likes ducks, and I like pairs of ducks (and people).

I can’t even tell you how excited I am for the wedding day!

Great photos can happen anywhere.

What do I do when I have about 15 minutes to take photos at 1 p.m. on a sunny, bright day in a town I’m not familiar with? I improvise!

My best friend Kasie and her husband Aleks have just recently celebrated their 2-year wedding anniversary. We’ve made it a goal to take photos of them around their anniversary each year, and I think if I keep it to 15 minute sessions, Aleks will actually think it’s pretty cool. We had a little bit of time for a session, and Kasie really wanted a field for some romantic, outdoorsy looking images. Where can you find a field in the middle of a city? Next to a Wal-Mart, of course.

Yes, these were taken in about 15 minutes of time in a field next to a Wal-Mart when the sun was high overhead. I like how this turned out, and I like that I had to think quickly and create some beautiful images in a short amount of time. It keeps me on my toes.

Victoria in Kansas City’s River Market Area

With clouds looming in the distance, and a weather forecast that promised no rain in Kansas City until noon, Victoria and I set out for a portrait session in the City Market area of Kansas City, Missouri. She’s visiting from Virginia this week, and wanted some updated head shots for her involvement in several organizations, including one that is dear to my heart, Mortar Board.

Here are a few of my favorites — and I have a lot of them, because Victoria’s happy personality shines through in them all.

Kansas City Portraits: Bree and Brian, Columbus Park

It’s hard to believe that it was over two years ago that Bree and Brian got married, and I got to shoot their wedding. It’s hard to believe how quickly life changes and we find ourselves in a new place — somewhere maybe very different than where we imagined just a few short years before! I love that Bree and Brian ended up in the Kansas City area at the same time I did. Bree and I got to be good friends during our time at K-State, and it was awesome to catch up with them a little bit and take some fun photos of them a few years after they said “I do.”

We took photos in the Columbus Park area of Kansas City (just east of River Market) — it’s a cool Italian district of the city!

When she’s 75… she’ll love these.

My best friend’s birthday was Saturday. Since it’s my job to capture the lives of people around me, I talked her into letting me take her portraits on her birthday… one day during a time in her life that she’ll love looking back on when we’re older, and everything is different, and we’re still best friends. We’ve been best friends for 19 years already. 19 years is a long time to know someone. We can look back now and laugh about things we did in elementary school — and in 19 more years, we’ll be able to look back and laugh about the things we do now… and photos to prove it.

Merry Christmas: A Video Christmas Card!

Merry Christmas!

We wanted to come up with a fun way to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, so we put together this silly little video (using Jeff’s new videography equipment, of course!) of us decorating our house and doing the things we do at Christmas time. You’ll even see a little drive through the Plaza in Kansas City with all of the Christmas lights on! Of course, our miniature schnauzer Petey also makes several appearances. Enjoy the Christmas tune by House of Heroes — and look them up. They have some sweet music.

We are so blessed by the awesome people we got to meet in 2009. Thank you for asking us to be a part of your stories. We’re also very, very excited for 2010, and all of the fun times it’s sure to bring.

We’d like to wish you all a happy, loving, fun Christmas. And a joyful new year.
