welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Sara and Nic’s Wedding at Californo’s

You know those weddings where you leave thinking, “now that was a GREAT day?” The kind of wedding day that involved a lot of laughter, some happy tears, a heartfelt ceremony, and some crazy moves on the dance floor? That was Sarah and Nic’s wedding day. But it was so much more than that. It...

Mandi and Nathan are really fun people. They have a great time with each other, with the family and friends they love, and their wedding day was no different. They’re just beautiful people. Inside and out. And their families and friends all know it, and celebrated it on their wedding day with them. Meghan and Andy’s Kansas City Wedding

I’m not even sure how to begin a blog post describing Meghan and Andy’s wedding day. It was a day that encompassed so much more than a wedding — which, in and of itself, is a really big thing. I was excited going into the day, because of the family history surrounding the day. Meghan...

Lori and Brian are super sweet people, whose wedding day was so special. Sarah and Jason’s Backyard Wedding in Pierre, South Dakota!

We drove through five states to celebrate with Sarah and Jason. That’s what happens when you take a highway that runs along state borders. We had never been to South Dakota before, and when Sarah and Jason wanted to have us come photograph their wedding, we said yes. Because we like seeing new places, and...

Megan and Alan: Indian Hills Country Club Wedding

Their story is like a fairytale, their pastor said. It’s a story of boy meets girl, a story of high school sweethearts, a story of Yale football player marries professional ballerina. They are all of those things, but more than that, Megan and Alan are two people who love and respect each other, find joy...

Renee and JP’s Anniversary Session

They said I’m their “marriage historian.” They’re planning to do a session every year during the month of their anniversary, and I get to capture it. Because they realize the importance of capturing images that represent their lives together. They recognize that someday, these days will be gone, and new days will come, but they’ll...

Caitlin and Ryan’s Wedding: Our Lady of Sorrows and The Sawyer Room

As one of their wedding day details stated, what started as a friendly bet turned into true love. She’s a KU graduate. He’s a K-State graduate. They’re both die-hard fans of their respective teams, and have a friendly rivalry that was even present on their wedding day. It showed how much fun they have together,...

Kate and Justin were full of smiles all day. From the moment I arrived, they were ready to see each other, ready to get married, ready to celebrate with their loved ones. They were excited. The planning was done, and their day — a very hot summer day — couldn’t have been better. Their ceremony...
