welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Brandi and Scott are amazing people. They’re loving, kind, beautiful, and compassionate. Kristin and Brad’s wedding at the Kansas City Intercontinental

The day before their spring wedding was blustery, freezing cold, and very rainy. The morning of their wedding, the thermostat in my house said 54 degrees when I woke up (I left the heater off on accident!). I thought of Kristin and Brad that morning as I got ready to head out to their wedding,...

Jeff and Hannah’s winter wedding in Missouri

I’m at a loss for words to explain who Jeff and Hannah are, because there are too many great things I could say. Individually, they are kind, warm-hearted people who bring joy to the people around them. Together, they’re one of the most made for each other couples I’ve worked with. I don’t say that...

My last wedding of 2010 was a great one. Celebrating with Whitney and Mike as they committed their lives to one another was a really fun way to round out the 2010 wedding season. Whitney and Mike are such sweet people, who were SO excited to get married — I think I heard more “Yay!!...

Erin and Jeff’s Pittsburg KS Wedding

Before the wedding ceremony, Erin’s mom came up to me and said that Erin was really excited to have us photograph her wedding. We go back quite a few years as volunteers with HOBY. Her mom went on to say, “Erin had her photographer picked out before she knew who’d she be standing up there...

Sarah and Paul’s October Wedding in St. Joseph, Missouri

I’m not even sure how to start this blog post about Sarah and Paul, because there are so many things I want to share about who they are and how they love. They are people who care deeply and love richly. They don’t contain their excitement for each other. They are wonderful people separately, but...

Kim and Alex’s Wedding at Indian Hills Country Club

Fall is a really romantic time of year. The leaves change colors, the temperature becomes a little more chilly, and the golden sun sets earlier. It’s a great time of year for a wedding, and Kim and Alex’s special day was absolutely beautiful. They got married at Indian Hills Country Club (one of my favorite...
