welcome to the ericamay blog!

Hi! I'm Erica May Short, and I'm so excited you're here. This blog will show you my current work with a few fun personal things mixed in to help you get to know me better. I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City, and I love my job. I am so blessed to be a part of so many stories. I care more about people than pictures, because it's your story that provides photo-worthy moments.

Besides photography, I love my husband Jeff, our miniature schnauzer Petey, movie theater candy, and the color green. You can visit my main portfolio website at www.ericamay.com!

All of the fun photos in the blog header are of Jeff and I recently -- taken by our amazingly talented friends Jeremy and Ashley of www.wearetheparsons.com! We have them to thank for capturing us exactly how we are.

Sara and Nic’s Wedding at Californo’s

You know those weddings where you leave thinking, “now that was a GREAT day?” The kind of wedding day that involved a lot of laughter, some happy tears, a heartfelt ceremony, and some crazy moves on the dance floor? That was Sarah and Nic’s wedding day. But it was so much more than that. It...

Mandi and Nathan are really fun people. They have a great time with each other, with the family and friends they love, and their wedding day was no different. Tamara and Royce’s Kansas City Wedding: Terrace on Grand

They’re just beautiful people. Inside and out. And their families and friends all know it, and celebrated it on their wedding day with them. Meghan and Andy’s Kansas City Wedding

I’m not even sure how to begin a blog post describing Meghan and Andy’s wedding day. It was a day that encompassed so much more than a wedding — which, in and of itself, is a really big thing. I was excited going into the day, because of the family history surrounding the day. Meghan...

Their June wedding was at one of my favorite Kansas City venues, Indian Hills Country Club, where Brandi and...

Kristin and Brad’s wedding at the Kansas City Intercontinental

The day before their spring wedding was blustery, freezing cold, and very rainy. The morning of their wedding, the thermostat in my house said 54 degrees when I woke up (I left the heater off on accident!). I thought of Kristin and Brad that morning as I got ready to head out to their wedding,...

Kansas City Wedding: Jess and Matt

Jess and Matt’s wedding on Labor Day weekend was so much fun. These two recently moved to Tucson, Arizona, but had their morning wedding in Kansas City in the church where her family has been going for years (St. Peter’s Cathedral in Kansas City, KS) and a fun breakfast-themed reception at Harrah’s. Jess and I...

Renee and JP’s wedding at the Sawyer Room in downtown Kansas City was wonderful. It was a gorgeous day, with a really fun couple, and a beautiful setting. Jessie and Rick’s Kansas City Wedding

If you know me at all, you know that I love when things are personalized, tailored to specific people, planned and organized in a way that reflects who a person is… or, in this case, who a couple is! Jessie and Rick planned their wedding weekend just like that — a reflection of things and...

Jenna and Calder’s Kansas City Wedding

I can’t believe their wedding has come and gone. Jenna and Calder’s wedding day was one that I was looking forward to the moment I met them. They’re just awesome people who love each other and love the people around them. They’re the kind of couple who was super excited about their marriage, as well...
