After I posted the photos from Kendra and Fernando’s wedding in Yelapa, Mexico, I’ve been getting questions about the area and what the town and coastline looks like. I took some fun travel photos — some with our point and shoot camera and some with the D700. I wanted to share more about the awesome town and give you a look into the remote, secluded amazingness that is Yelapa.
There are no roads that lead to the town and no cars in Yelapa. We didn’t have cell phone reception while we were there, and no internet. There is an internet cafe in the town, but we spent our time in Yelapa disconnecting from the usual craziness of e-mail, phone calls, social networks, etc. It was refreshing and rejuvenating and exactly what we needed. The trip helped me cross a few things off of my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days — including number 69 (travel internationally) and number 84 (take a break from the internet from an entire weekend) and number 85 (shut off the TV for at least 48 hours). We had days and days away from the usual distractions, and I loved it. A mandatory trip to somewhere remote might be in store every year for us.
Okay, here are some of my favorite images from Yelapa, Mexico! This first set is from our point-and-shoot camera (some were taken through a waterproof case so we could take it near and in the water!).

Jeff went parasailing in Yelapa, and he took the point-and-shoot up with him. I love these photos he captured — it really showcases the beauty of the terrain and town!

The rest of these images were taken with the Nikon D700, not our point-and-shoot camera.

The English is only for those of us who are visitors and don’t know where the town pier is to begin with.

Visitors to Yelapa arrive on a water taxi:

This was the view from our room:

The river runs next to the town and feeds into the ocean. We hiked up it one day to get to a waterfall.

If you’re looking for a destination to visit that is a little more off-the-beaten-path, Yelapa would be a place to consider. The people are friendly and warm, and the landscape is gorgeous. It’s definitely more of an adventure than somewhere resort-focused, but it could also be a really fun, secluded honeymoon spot. I have some awesome details for you about it if you’re interested in checking into it. Kendra and Fernando (whose wedding we shot) own really cool rental condos in Yelapa, too (MiraMar).
